Sharon Osbourne cackles about Susan Boyle on the Opie & Anthony Show.
Wow. What did British crooner Susan Boyle ever do to deserve this? Sharon Osbourne, wife of rocker Ozzy, spent the better part of two minutes cracking mean-spirited jokes about Boyle's looks yesterday. Appearing as a guest on the often lowest common denominator Opie & Anthony radio show yesterday, Osbourne let loose a mean-spirited attack that, due to its profanity, would not have passed the censors on traditional radio. Fortunately for fans of cruelty and crassness, her remarks (thoroughly enjoyed by the show's hosts) were on satellite radio and thus ran unedited.
What's even more disturbing about the fifty-seven-year old's out-of-the-blue attack is that she herself is a recovering plastic surgery addict, having nipped and tucked just about every part of her body—a pursuit that she told the British tabloids in 2007 she'd finally given up. All told, Osbourne has admitted to spending £300,000 on cosmetic procedures. Which is why it's all the more startling that a woman who so clearly was not pleased with her own appearance took such great pleasure in criticizing the looks of her forty-eight-year-old countrywoman. Among the only comment she made that is printable was: "You just want to say, 'God bless -- and here's a Gillette razor.'"
Two years ago, Osbourne had this to say about her own many surgeries: "I was following a dream. I've had enough." How uncanny it is that Susan Boyle is also following a dream. Only, her dream has never involved surgery or petty cruelty. Just sheer talent. And for that, Boyle will come out ahead every time.
